Mathematics 499: Special Problems

A credit-bearing opportunity to pursue your interests with the guidance of a faculty mentor. Despite its 400-level designation, enrollment is not limited to seniors: all actively engaged scholar are encouraged to pursue independent research. The course carries variable credit (1–4) and may be repeated.

You’ll need to be proactive: explore faculty research online to identify faculty member who is working in the area you are interested in. Contact them directly to discuss your ideas, establish who you will be working with (and who will be grading your work).

Before you can enroll in Math 499, you must first provide details to the department office. Be sure to include the faculty member’s name and the number of credits for your project.

Weekly seminars

Learn about current research and innovations in mathematics and statistics. All WSU students are welcome to attend. Zoom options are available for some seminars.
