Molly Sutter, a PhD candidate in the department, was recently awarded the Harriet B. Rigas Outstanding Woman in Doctoral Studies Award by the Association for Faculty Women.
Molly began graduate study at WSU in August of 2019 and completed her PhD degree this May. Her research, advised by Professor Annie Wilhelm, seeks to understand how secondary education students develop their sense of identity as mathematics teachers. Molly has already given several presentations on this work at scientific conferences.
During her time in the PhD program, Molly served as a teaching assistant, and she established herself as one of the department’s finest teachers. Molly also made contributions to the department’s student organizations.
The Harriet B. Rigas award was created by the Association for Faculty Women to honor Harriett B. Rigas who served as a professor and chair of the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering. Rigas later chaired a department at the Navy’s Postgraduate School in Monterey and at Michigan State, and she served as a program director at the National Science Foundation.
Molly was recognized at a gathering of the Association of Faculty Women in April.
