MS in Mathematics

A tailored, two-year program designed to give you an in-depth mathematical education in an area of your choice. You may pursue the degree as a stand-alone program or while seeking a PhD in another field at WSU. Requirements include graded coursework, an individual capstone project, and an  exam and presentation on your project.

Preparation

Applicants should have a Bachelor of Science degree in statistics, mathematics, or a similar field. Ideally, courses taken would include two semesters of introduction to analysis (similar to Math 401, Math 402), linear algebra (Math 420), abstract algebra (Math 421), and experience with computer programming.

MS in Statistics

Build your statistical skill set in preparation to work in industry or for future doctoral studies. You may apply to this two-year program as a stand-alone degree or while seeking a PhD in another field at WSU.

Preparation

Applicants should have a Bachelor of Science degree in statistics, mathematics, or a similar field. Courses completed should include linear algebra (similar to Math 220), three semesters of calculus (one of multivariate calculus), a course in computer programming, and at least one upper division course in probability and statistics (similar to Stat 360, Stat 412, or Stat 423).
