You’ll gain valuable leadership skills and advance your professional development when you become a teaching/learning assistant or tutor in the Department of Mathematics and Statistics.
The experience of teaching or providing learning guidance for groups and individuals are transferable skills you can apply to any career path and can be advantageous when applying to professional schools.
Opportunities
The department hires students as teaching/learning assistants, graders, and tutors on a temporary basis each semester. Please note that students are required to be enrolled in at least six credits to be eligible for these positions.

Math Learning Center Tutors
Answer questions and support for your fellow students. You must be available for shifts during the hours the MLC is open:
- Sunday: 4:00–9:00 p.m.
- Monday through Thursday: 10:00 a.m.–9:00 p.m.
- Friday: 10:00 a.m.–5:00 p.m.
Learning Assistants
Work in the classroom alongside course instructors in Math 100, Math 103, Math 106, and Math 108. In addition to earning a stipend, this is an excellent experience for all prospective teachers, future teaching assistants, or anyone who wants to sharpen their communication skills.
If you are offered a position:
All WSU employees are required to complete an I-9 form and provide proof of work eligibility. At least one document must be a government-issued picture ID. All documents must be unexpired. Your hiring manager will provide details.
