Accelerated Courses
Your ALEKS assessment score can indicate not only whether you have the prior knowledge required for your first mathematics course at WSU, but also whether you might be a good candidate for accelerated studies.
Options are available for college algebra and trigonometry (Math 106/108) and for basic mathematics and algebra methods (Math 100/103).
Accelerated Math 106 and 108
If your ALEKS assessment score is 70 or higher or if you received a B or higher in Math 103, you are eligible to enroll in a one-semester combined course for Math 106 (College Algebra) and Math 108 (Trigonometry). Classwork is taught sequentially with algebra topics during the first weeks of the semester and trigonometry in the later weeks and you will earn credit for both courses.
Enrollment requires departmental approval.
When your registration time opens in MyWSU, you will need to request concurrent enrollment in the appropriate sections of Math 106 and Math 108 via email.
Send an email to math.stats@wsu.edu with the following information:
- Your name
- Your WSU ID number
- The section numbers for 106 and 108 that meet five-days per week to ensure you have reviewed the schedule and the time commitment.
Your schedule must allow you to attend class at the same time every day of the week. You will not be enrolled if you have any schedule conflicts.
You should receive a response from the department within 2 business days. Please be patient.
If you plan on taking Math 103 prior to requesting approval to enroll in the accelerated 106/108 course, we highly recommend you complete Math 103 the semester immediately prior to the combined course. For fall enrollment, this may be spring semester or summer session.
If you completed Math 103 more than two semesters (one academic year) prior to requesting enrollment in the accelerated 106/108 course, you will need to take the ALEKS assessment and receive a score of 70. Alternately, you may request an individual evaluation, which will be assessed on a case-by-case basis.
Accelerated Math 100 and 103
If your ALEKS assessment score is 1 or higher, you are eligible to enroll in a one-semester combined course for Math 100 (Basic Mathematics) and Math 103 (Algebra Methods). Classwork is taught sequentially with basic topics during the first weeks of the semester and algebra in the later weeks and you will earn credit for both courses.
Enrollment requires departmental approval.
When your registration time opens in MyWSU, you will need to request concurrent enrollment in the appropriate sections of Math 100 and Math 103 via email.
