Sergey Lapin, professor of Mathematics and Statistics and director of WSU’s Data Analytics Program, recently received a letter of appreciation from Washington State Community Connectors (WSCC) for his leadership and commitment to their ongoing partnership with WSU.
With Sergey’s support, the partnership has connected WSU students with opportunities to apply data analytics to real-world challenges facing families and communities.
One example is Alyssa Nguyen’s research on the difficulties families face when accessing behavioral health services, including the time and effort required to find care. Her work has gained attention beyond WSU, with invitations to present her findings to professional and community organizations. The partnership has also created career opportunities, with WSCC securing funding to hire Alyssa as its full-time Data Operations Lead.
Sergey’s leadership connects university research and student learning with community needs, creating opportunities for students while helping organizations address important challenges.
