Since 2012, Dr. Dean Johnson has organized a statistics poster competition designed to promote statistical literacy and data-centered problem solving among K–12 students. Originally developed for elementary school students in Pullman, Washington, the competition was expanded statewide in 2024 to include K–12 students throughout Washington State. The program engages students in data collection, statistical analysis, and communication of quantitative findings while introducing younger students to the role of statistics in scientific inquiry and decision-making.
The winning posters from the Washington State Competition are entered in the national American Statistical Association Data Visualization Poster Competition for Grades K-12. In 2026, the two posters below placed first in the Washington State competition and went on to place in the national competition.
